Four primary school students, three boys from Year 8 and one from Year 7, were referred to police during an athletics meet in Suva yesterday after allegedly smoking marijuana.

Assistant Commissioner of Police Operations, Livai Driu says the students were found with smoking apparatuses in a washroom and were handed over to security before police arrived.

He says the parents of the students were informed and the students were counselled on the consequences of their actions.

The Fiji Police Force urges parents and guardians to continually speak to their children about the devastating consequences of illicit drugs.

They say without it, children might seek advice from sources that do not have their best interests at heart.
