4 police officers alleged assault case sent back to Magistrates Court
Four police officers allegedly involved in an assault case have been sent back to the Magistrates Court’s extended jurisdiction by Suva High Court Judge Justice Waleen George this morning.

Magistrate Sufia Hamza, who had earlier denied bail to Sevanaia Sedra, Kurt Yee, Jonathan Whippy and Ponipate Domolaila, will handle the case.

They have been further remanded.

It is alleged that the officers questioned the victim, Jone Ledua, after he caused a disturbance at a barbecue stall on the morning of 25th August 2024.

It is further alleged that Ledua was assaulted following the questioning.

The four officers are charged with intent to cause grievous harm.

Sedra is also charged with allegedly stealing Ledua’s Samsung A35 phone, Adidas jacket and $200 in cash.

The matter has been adjourned to 8th September.
