$4 million allocated to cater for cane cartage costs from Penang to Rarawai Mill in Ba

4 million dollars has been allocated by the government to cater for cane cartage costs of farmers that transfer cane from Penang to the Rarawai Mill in Ba.

In the last three years, the government has spent $14.78 million to assist growers to cart their cane from Penang to Rarawai.

As the Rarawai Mill started its crushing season yesterday, it is expected to crush 578,280 tonnes of cane which is expected to produce a total of 58,295 tonnes of sugar.

The Fiji Sugar Corporation will also deploy 23 trucks to the Tavua and Penang area to cater for truck shortages.
