Four men guilty of raping two women in Tailevu in 2016 are behind bars after facing sentences by High Court Judge Justice Salesi Temo today.
Wame Baleimakogai and Napolioni Leiloma have been jailed for 9 years each with a non-parole period of 8 years while Luke Sorovakatini and Sanjay Lal will each spend 8 years behind bars with a non parole period of 7 years.
Justice Temo said the four men all took turns on the two women despite knowing they had not given their consent.
He said that rape was a serious violation of a person’s dignity.
