4 charged with urging political violence granted bail

Four people charged with urging political violence have been granted bail by the Suva Magistrates Court this morning.

The four include businesswoman Dr Mere Samisoni and three other former politicians, Mataiasi Ragigia, Apete Vereti and Semisi Lasike.

While releasing them on strict bail conditions, Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvili said they have to pay $5000 bond each, surrender all travel documents, report daily to the nearest police station between 8am to 6pm and a curfew will be imposed on them from 7pm to 6am.

He also ordered them not to contact each other.

Each of them today provided two sureties and the Chief Magistrate asked them if they can pay $5000 if the accused breached the bail conditions on which they agreed.

While highlighting his ruling on the bail application, Chief Magistrate Usaia Ratuvuli said the four between September and 23rd December last year urged a Waisea Kaloumaira to burn the Suva City.

The case has been adjourned to 25th of this month where full disclosures are to be served.

It is alleged that the four, between the months of September and December last year, in Suva intentionally conspired to overthrow by force of violence the Government of Fiji.
