A 39‑year‑old man has been sentenced to 14 years imprisonment for raping his niece at his home in Gau.
Justice Riyaz Hamza had convicted the man of one count of rape.
All three assessors had found the man not guilty.
The man raped his 17‑year‑old niece on the 15th of October, 2016.
It was told in court that the man had called the victim who is now 19 years of age to wash his clothes at his home.
The man has spent 3 months in remand and he has a remainder of 13 years and 9 months of jail term to serve.
Justice Hamza has set a non-parole period of 11 years and 9 months.
