35-year-old child rapist to undergo psychiatric evaluation before sentencing

High Court Judge, Justice Daniel Goundar has granted a 35-year-old man’s request to get a psychiatric evaluation done to assist in his mitigation.

The man raped a 2-year-old girl in a settlement in Namosi in 2018.

The man’s lawyer told Justice Goundar that the evaluation will be done to ascertain the man's level of intellectual disability.

It was heard in court that the man went to the girl’s home and took her to the back of her house and raped her.

The girl told her mother about the offence who then reported the matter to the police.

He has been further remanded in custody and will be sentenced on the 18th of September.
