33 private pharmacies involved with Free Medicine Scheme - Usamate
Health Minister, Jone Usamate

Health Minister, Jone Usamate says only 33 private pharmacies in Fiji are involved with the Free Medicine Scheme and people can obtain their prescribed medicines from these pharmacies only

He says the Free medical card holders should demand for a copy of listed pharmacies from their nearest health centers.

Usamate made these comments after some people raised concerns that pharmacies are not giving them prescribed medicines when they are showing their cards.

Usamate has also stated the medicines that are included under the program has gone through a system where a group of experts, doctors and pharmacies have identified the 79 essential medicines.

He says the list may be reviewed next year.

Some of the medicines that are included in the free medicine list are Enalapril, Flucloxallin, Paracetamol, Aspirin tablets and Salbutamol Inhaler.
