27 people homeless following 5 fire incidents in the last 36 hours

There have been 5 fire incidents in the last 36 hours which has left 27 people homeless.

A man allegedly set fire to a five bedroom house in Tomanu Road, Nadera this morning after having an argument with his father. 16 people are homeless after this incident.

Police are currently investigating the matter.

According to the National Fire Authority, firefighters managed to save the second flat.

In another incident, a four bedroom house was destroyed in a fire in Makoi this morning. It is believed the house was vacant at the time of the incident.

The third incident occurred at Edinburgh Drive in Suva yesterday. NFA says it is alleged the owner had set fire to the house and fled the scene.

The 4th incident was reported in Bau Island yesterday which has left 7 people homeless.

NFA says their team with the help of villagers was able to control the fire from spreading to other nearby houses.

The 5th incident was reported at Maravu Resort in Taveuni where a Duplex Villa was destroyed in a fire.
