A 25-year-old man has been convicted of one count of rape and acquitted of one count of indecent assault today by Justice Usaia Ratuvili in the Suva High Court.
The incident occurred in the Central Division in 2023 when the victim was under the age of 13.
Justice Ratuvili says there was insufficient evidence in relation to the indecent assault charge, and the accused has therefore been acquitted of that charge.
He says there was direct evidence in relation to the rape charge.
The sentence hearing will be held on the 18th of June.
