Two men who allegedly tried to bury a 19-year-old farmer alive in Waisagavuna Settlement in Cakaudrove on the 23rd of July this year have been remanded in custody by High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

Are Kakanu and Maikeli Dawai along with Esala Dau, Bob Maisamoa and a juvenile allegedly assaulted the farmer and threatened to kill him for telling the Police about Kakanu’s farm where allegedly cultivated marijuana.

Esala Dau, Bob Maisamoa and the juvenile were earlier granted bail.

It is alleged that they took the farmer uphill, tied him with a rope and forced him into a pit.

Dawai then allegedly started sharpening his cane knife and brought the sharp edge of the blade to the man’s neck and threatened to kill him.

It is alleged that the beating only stopped when Kakanu’s wife returned home.
