The two major bridges in Suva and Vatuwaqa will need to be closed indefinitely for urgent repairs as it could collapse anytime.
This is according to Fiji Roads Authority Manager Change Mike Rudge as the Stinson Parade bridge at the Fish market and the Fletcher Road Bridge in Vatuwaqa have closed.
Rudge said the closure is due to the rust of the beams and cables which needs to be changed urgently.
Rudge said they are looking at installing bailey bridges for temporary use which will take atleast 3 months to put up and building the new bridges will take twelve to eighteen months.
According to Rudge the replacement of both new bridges will cost an estimation of $25 million as the Stinson Parade bridge will cost at least $15 million while the Fletcher Road Bridge in Vatuwaqa will cost $10 million.
He added that there will be big problems of traffic jams in these areas for weeks but is calling for people's understanding that the repairs on these bridges need to be done urgently.
