The two men charged for the alleged murder of Police Constable Peniasi Racagi in Lami have told the court through their counsel that they are fearing for their safety as they have been targeted by individuals in Police uniform.

42-year-old Keni Salawai, and 20-year-old Jope Seniloli appeared before High Court Judge Justice Daniel Goundar.

Salawai’s lawyer Tobia Ravuniwa told the High Court that he got a call from his client, telling him that the individual’s in Police uniform were interrogating them.

Justice Goundar asked if they can confirm if the individuals were real police officers which Ravuniwa said he could not confirm. The Judge then told them that he could not do anything about it but report it to Police.

Meanwhile, the ODPP has asked the High Court for more time as they are still try to acquire from Police the post mortem report, DNA analysis results and interview records of both accused.

Justice Goundar then asked the State how the Police charged the two if there was no post mortem report.

The State lawyer told the court that Police has the post mortem report but was not part of the file given to the DPP.

Meanwhile, Seniloli’s lawyer Iva Seduadua asked the High Court if her client’s residence could be changed.

She says her client’s father was residing in a house provided by the employer and they have moved to a new residence.

Their bail has been extended.

The case will be called again on the 22nd of this month.
