18-year-old Makelesi Lumuni appeals for safer evac centre in Moala Village

In a heartfelt speech that captured both urgency and hope, 18-year-old Makelesi Lewatu Lumuni stood before her village and global leaders to share her vision for a safer, more resilient Moala during the historic visit of Kate Forbes, President of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC).

Born and raised in the small village of Moala in Nadi, Lumuni painted a vivid picture of life on the frontlines of climate-related disasters.

Lumuni says she dreams of a double-story evacuation centre for her village, a strong, safe place for for families, children, the elderly, and especially for those with disabilities or extra needs.

When questioned by fijivillage News today if the Ministry is aware of their concerns, Minister for Rural and Disaster Management Sakiusa Ditoka says it has been brought to his attention, and he will be meeting with the Commissioner Western next week.
