$17.9 million allocated towards rural electrification projects in 2019/2020 National Budget

$17.9 million has been allocated towards the rural electrification projects in the 2019/2020 National Budget of which $12.5 million will be used for Grid Extension Program while $5.4 million is allocated for Solar Home Systems Programs.

44 schemes will be carried out under the Grid Extension Program in the next financial year and this is expected to benefit 1,419 applicants.

109 applicants are from the central division, 758 in the western, 552 in the northern division.

795 households are expected to benefit from the Solar Home Systems Programme.

484 are from the northern division, 137 are from the central division, 148 from the eastern while 26 are from the western division.

Minister for Infrastructure Jone Usamate had earlier highlighted that over 25,000 Fijian households now have access to electricity through the Rural Electrification Project.

He had said the government has put in place plans in the Fiji National Development Plan to ensure that all Fijians have access to electricity by 2021.
