170 complaints in October regarding new National Minimum Wage Rate - Usamate
Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Employment Jone Usamate

The Ministry of Employment has confirmed that 170 complaints have been received in the month of October for failing to comply with the new National Minimum Wage Rate.

Acting Prime Minister and Minister for Employment Jone Usamate says that officers from the Ministry of Employment are sent out to talk to the employers first and they try to get them to address the issue.

He says if non-compliance continues, the employer is then referred to the Employment Relations Tribunal and depending on the nature of the complaint, the employer would face a fine or prison sentence.

Usamate hopes that with more awareness on the National Minimum Wage and the Wage Regulation Order, people will do the right thing and pay the right wages.

The National Minimum Wage Rate is $2.68.
