17 sacrilege cases reported from October 2021 to January this year

17 cases of sacrilege have been reported to police from October 2021 to January this year.

This includes 5 in the Southern Division, 5 in the Western Division, 4 in the Eastern Division, 2 in the Central Division and 1 in the North.

Police say of the 17 cases, 9 were in a temple, 6 were in a church while one case was reported in a mosque.

Meanwhile investigations continue into the 2 cases which were reported in Koronivia, Nausori in the last few weeks.

The latest incident occurred on Sunday where some people broke into the Koronivia Nav Durga Mandir, vandalized the statues of Hindu Gods and took off with around $10 worth of loose coins.

A similar incident occurred at another temple in the same area 2 weeks ago where close to $30 and some items were stolen.
