165 arrests made during last weekend's operation

A total of 165 arrests were made last weekend for various offences.

This was confirmed by the Fiji Police Force as their officers continue to monitor city and town activities, and also work closely with nightclub operators and security personnel.

Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu says weekend operations have been heightened to tackle major and minor crimes.

Tudravu says crime is a crime and they can not overlook minor crimes because it gives a false impression that it is acceptable and police have no powers to do anything.

43 arrests were made for unlawful possession of illicit drugs, three for theft, 25 for assault and three for breach of Domestic Violence Restraining Order.

Two arrests were made for damaging property, one for resisting arrest and seven for criminal intimidation.

Other offences include criminal trespass, aggravated robbery, drunk and incapable and drunk and disorderly.

Commissioner further says nightclub operators and security personnel were reminded to strictly enforce closing hours following the conditions of their Liquor licence.

Tudravu adds that maintaining consistency with the current approach is crucial in regaining public trust and confidence in the Force.
