The Uprising Fiji's International 7s is set to kick off this morning with 16 teams fighting it out to see who will be crowned the 2011 champion when the dust settles at the TFL Stadium tomorrow afternoon.
10 of the best local 7s teams together with 6 overseas teams have prepared for the past two weeks with a common goal in mind to reach the final and lay their hands on the Uprising prize money.
Current IRB 7s champion Samoa have been given the number one seed and other top overseas teams Ponsonby, US Grizzles who have roped in the services of former Fiji 7s rep Vili Satala and the New Zealand Maori 7s team are also top contenders.
The talk of the tournament is on the best coaches in 7s rugby Gordon Tietjens teaming up with the World’s best 7s player Waisale Serevi in the Digicel Matai team.
The Wizard has called on fans to come and see, may be for the last time, how he will combine with Tietjens to try and win the tournament.
Our best bet locally will be the Fiji Barbarians team with the services of Pio Tuwai, Nikola Matawalu, Joeli Lutumailagi and William Ryder.
Babas coach Sale Sorovaki said that like any other team they will want to win this tournament but it will not be an easy task for his boys.
Sorovaki's toughest assignment in Pool D will be the best two local 7s clubs Wardens and Police.
Wardens beat the Barbarians last weekend but Coach Joe Savou has kept a low profile heading into the tournament.
The Uprising Fiji International 7s kicks off at 9am with Samoa playing against Nadroga and you can catch a live commentary on our sister station Viti FM.
Fiji will play the Wardens at 11.12am this morning.
