15,000 women per year suffer violence from partners
The project officer of Fiji Women's Crisis Centre, Tura Lewai

About 15,000 women per year and 302 women on average per week will suffer from injuries due to violence by their husband or partner.

These figures have been released by the project officer of Fiji Womens Crisis Centre, Tura Lewai at the Women in Sports Forum 2015.

According to Lewai, only 1 in 10 of these women will tell the health worker the true cause of the injury.

He says according to their research, the women do not give this information as their partners are with them at the hospital or health centre.

Lewai says many of the cases of violence against women involve people they know, trust and people that claim to love them.
