A 14-year-old boy is being hailed a hero by his community after he helped arrest a suspect in an aggravated robbery case in Khalsa Road last night.

Misa Cakacaka, a student of Bishop Kempton Primary School has a holiday job as a car wash attendant near their home in Khalsa Road.

Police say Cakacaka stopped a man in his 20s who was trying to rob the shop near the Car Wash.

The 14-year-old from Vanuavatu in Lau got stabbed in his hand while trying to stop the man.

Cakacaka said he was washing a car when he saw a man threatening the cashier.

He says he immediately ran inside the shop and confronted him but after giving the man a punch someone behind him stabbed his hand.

Cakacaka says he was then assisted by another man and they were able to hold down the suspect until Police arrived.

He says the second suspect fled from the scene.

Cakacaka’s sister, Julia says she is proud to have a brother like Misa.

Commissioner of Police Sitiveni Qiliho has praised Cakacaka's courageous act.

He says Misa's action certainly was very brave and the institution commends him for his courage which led to the arrest of the suspect.

Qiliho says while they don't want members of the public to be putting themselves in harm's way when confronted with such situations, Misa has proven to be a shining example of how there really is no barrier to how we can all work together to help fight crime and considering he is only 14-years-old and chose to do something to stop a crime from being committed is truly remarkable and they know that he will certainly have a bright future ahead of him.
