1,380 Fijians assisted under the First Home Buyers grant so far

1,380 first home buyers have been assisted so far under the First Home Buyers grant since its inception in 2014.

In a response to a written question by Fiji First MP Mohammed Dean, who had asked on the number of Fijians assisted through the grant, the Ministry for Local Government, Housing and Environment noted that the 807 first home buyers have been assisted through the $10,000 grant.

The Ministry states that 573 home buyers were then assisted with the $5,000 grant for the purchase of their ready built residential home.

They say that the grant sum disbursed equates to $10.935 million.

The Reserve Bank of Fiji in conjunction with government has granted a total of $60m for affordable housing in the 2017‑2018 National Budget.

This housing assistance fund will be made available to households earning less than $50,000 a year at a 5% interest rate.
