130 tax evasion cases

130 tax evasion cases

The Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority is investigating 130 cases where people or companies have evaded tax.

This has been revealed to Fijivillage by FRCA Chief Executive Officer, Visvanath Das who says people have given them information under the Whistleblower policy.

Das could not release further information about these cases as they are still being investigated but says people should report to FRCA if they have any information that could lead to the prosecution of people or companies evading tax.

Under the Whistleblower policy, the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority rewards the informer or whistleblower at least 10% for providing information leading to the successful recovery of the tax dollars.

Last week, a Company Director was slapped with a $2.3 million fine after he omitted his income and benefits to FRCA by $4.8 million.

The whistleblower in this case was rewarded $100,000.
