12-year-old dies following a road accident in Navua

A 12-year-old child who was involved in a road accident in Navua on the 28th of last month has died at the Colonial War Memorial Hospital.

Director of Traffic, SSP Mitieli Divuana says the victim was walking along the roadside near Yarawa Settlement in Serua when he was allegedly hit by a vehicle driven by a 21-year-old man who allegedly lost control of his car.

He says the accident also injured a 7-year-old who remains in serious condition.

SSP Divuana says speeding remains a major cause of such tragedies, warning drivers to follow speed limits.

Meanwhile,the road death toll stands at 44 compared to 63 for the same period last year.
