12-year-old Ravouvou Naviri could become the youngest dialysis patient in Fiji and needs monetary assistance from members of the public for his dialysis treatment.

Ravouvou’s kidneys have failed and he underwent surgery yesterday that will allow urine to drain better.

Kidney specialist Doctor Amrish Krishnan says that kidney failure in children is not very common but in the case of Ravouvou there was difficulty in passing urine completely and the long term blockage led to kidney failure.

Full time dialysis treatment is not funded by the government.

This will now make things really difficult for young Ravouvou and his family.

He needs treatment three times a week which would bring the total weekly treatment cost to $750.

Ravouvou’s family needs funds to sustain his dialysis treatment.

We have sent questions to the Health Ministry on whether the 12-year-old boy will be assisted.
