Residents and landowners of Vunisea in Kadavu are raising concerns about the illegal dumping of rubbish by government officials and lack of proper disposal solutions.

The residents and landowners claim that government officials are using a piece of land along the roadside to dump all their rubbish and are not practising their civic duty.

They have also reported large bags of rubbish being dumped in areas like the back road of the government station, causing a foul smell, which is unsanitary for the people. The residents say such actions can lead to environmental problems like pollution and create an unhealthy environment for the people.

They also say that this could lead to uncontrolled dumping and pollution, which can harm the environment and cause several issues such as damaging the marine ecosystems. They added that the rubbish can also create breeding grounds for mosquitoes, which can spread diseases like dengue.

We have reached out to the Ministries of Fisheries and Agriculture but they are yet to respond.
