The Springboks thrashed Italy 42-24 in the opening match of their summer test series this morning.
The Springboks dominated the first half at Loftus Versfeld Stadium scoring four tries and leading 28-3 at halftime, with Morne van den Berg tallying two of the tries.
However, Italy came out strong in the second half, scoring four tries of their own, including efforts from Pablo Dimcheff and Niccolò Cannone, narrowing the gap to 35-24.
Marco van Staden sealed the win for South Africa with a late try, extending the lead to 42-24.
They will face Italy again next Sunday at 3.10am in the second and final match of the summer test series.
