Attorney General and Minister Responsible for Climate Change Aiyaz Sayed‑Khaiyum has launched Fiji's Nationally Determined Contribution Implementation Roadmap in Bonn, Germany.
Sayed-Khaiyum says the Roadmap sets out progressive renewable initiatives targeted towards reducing 30 percent of Fiji’s carbon emissions over the next 13 years from a Business as Usual baseline of 1.5 million tonnes of carbon dioxide.
He says Fiji is blessed to be surrounded by nature that has provided food, water, shelter and much more to past generations and continues to do the same for fellow Fijians today.
Sayed-Khaiyum says Fiji does not take this for granted, as climate change endangers the very existence of so much that Fiji holds dear from its mountain ranges to sparkling blue seas.
He says climate change threatens to make those natural resources into sources of socio‑economic problems in the future.
