Minister for Local Government Premila Kumar says tenants living in Public Rental Board flats will be held accountable if they fail to comply with the tenancy agreement and in some cases eviction is the only option.
Kumar says they are concerned that despite talking to residents on several occasions there has been no change in behaviour.
She says this is why PRB is working on a new tenancy agreement.
Kumar says PRB teams will be enforcing certain provisions within the tenancy agreement and they have taken some matters to court and are awaiting the outcome.
She adds it is common knowledge that there are certain flats in areas such as Raiwai, Mead Road, Nadera and even Lautoka known for drug peddling and petty crimes.
The Minister says they do understand that everyone has the right to proper housing but it is also about the safety of other residents who are complaining about the illegal activities.
Kumar says PRB is also investigating the stabbing incident in one of the flats in Mead Road which will determine what action will be taken against the residents allegedly involved.
