Over 150 residents of Nacokaika Settlement get access to fresh water after years

Over 150 residents of Nacokaika Settlement, Baulevu in Nausori will soon have access to fresh water as they have contributed $14,000 to get a new borehole.

Nacokaika Settlement resident, Surendra Prasad says they relied on water from a dam but that has been dry for the past three years.

Prasad says the government had earlier supplied water tanks for the community where they were harvesting rainwater for consumption.

The 68-year-old retired advisory councillor says everyone had to go to the river nearby for all their other needs.

He adds that the community saved some money and relatives from overseas also provided the money to get the project started.
