New Zealand's adult minimum wage has risen to $20 an hour, a move which the Government says will see the incomes of 175,500 Kiwis lifted. This is an increase of $1.10 from $18.90.

The training and starting-out minimum wages will also both increase to $16.00 per hour, remaining at 80 per cent of the adult minimum wage.

There were calls by businesses to delay the rise, with borders still closed and the COVID-19 pandemic a threat.
