The 37 year old man who allegedly raped and impregnated his 12 year old niece has been denied bail.

The man appeared in the Labasa Magistrates Court.

Police had earlier stated that the incident allegedly took place some time in October last year and the man had warned her not to tell anyone.

It only came to light when the girl complained of a stomach ache, and was taken to the Seaqaqa Health Centre, where the pregnancy was confirmed.

The girl was staying with the accused and her grandmother since her parents passed away, and she is now under the care of the Fiji Women’s Crisis Centre.

The case has been transferred to the Labasa High Court and will be called on May 18th.
