2/3 of children in orphanages are from Indo-Fijian communities - Kiran
Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran

Two-thirds of the children in orphanages are from Indo-Fijian communities, and this is a serious issue that continues to be ignored.

This was revealed by Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection, Sashi Kiran during Radio Sargam’s Aaj Ka Mudda Show.

Kiran says Indo-Fijian children are also found on the streets and it’s not just the iTaukei children, therefore, it is important to take care of children.

The Minister says drugs and violence-related cases are mostly found in Lautoka, Nadi and Nakasi which involves the Indo-Fijian community.

She further says there is a lot of reporting of HIV in the iTaukei community because there is screening but there is no guarantee that this is not the case in other communities.

Kiran adds that when the mass screening starts, then they will know how detailed these problems are in our communities.
