650 amputees to benefit from 2026 Jaipur Foot Camp across Fiji

650 amputees to benefit from 2026 Jaipur Foot Camp across Fiji
A total of 650 amputees across Fiji are expected to benefit from the 2026 Jaipur Foot Camp, which aims to provide prosthetic limbs and help people regain their mobility and independence.

The initiative, fully funded by the Government of India, was officially inaugurated today at the Tamavua Twomey Hospital.

Health Minister Doctor Ratu Atonio Lalabalavu says receiving a prosthetic limb can be a life-changing moment for someone who has lost a limb, allowing them to walk independently, return to work, pursue education and participate fully in society.

The Central Division camp at Tamavua Hospital is being held from the 6th to the 21st of October, targeting 220 amputees.

The Northern Division camp will be held at the NCPD Complex in Labasa from the 23rd to the 31st of October, targeting 130 amputees, while the Western Division camp at Nadi Hospital will run from the 3rd to the 27th of November, targeting 300 amputees.

Dr Lalabalavu says the governments want a Fiji where every person, regardless of disability or circumstance, has a fair opportunity to access essential
healthcare and live with dignity.

He adds that disability inclusion must never be a mere slogan; it must
be reflected in the infrastructure we build, the budgets we pass and the medical services we deliver.
