Prolonged dry conditions leave Vunimoli farmer struggling to save vegetables
Farmers in Vunimoli are struggling to keep their vegetables alive as severe drought conditions continue to affect their farms.

Speaking to fijivillage News, 66-year-old farmer Mukta Wati says the lack of water has caused vegetables on her farm to dry up, and watering her crops has become a major challenge.

She says she previously relied on drums and buckets to collect and carry water to her vegetable plots.

However, the prolonged dry conditions have made it difficult for her to maintain her crops.

Wati says she has also been unable to plant all the vegetables she normally grows, but her current crops include eggplants, cucumbers and beans.

She says this is the first time in her life that she has experienced such severe drought, which has caused her vegetables to dry up.

Wati adds that farming under these conditions is not easy, as she has to work extra hard to provide water for her plants.

She is now calling on the Ministry of Agriculture to assist her with a water pump to help irrigate her vegetables.
