The suspended police officer and his partner, who are involved in the serious assault of a child captured in a video circulating on social media, have been remanded by the Nasinu Magistrates Court.
Saint George Sisi Talei and Tofua Raiyasi are jointly charged with one count of an act intended to cause grievous harm.
The two appeared before Magistrate Lice Manulevu and were represented by Legal Aid.
Both applied for bail.
However, prosecution lawyer Simione Seruvatu objected to their bail applications, stating that the matter was domestic in nature and that the accused are the parents of the child.
A Domestic Violence Restraining Order (DVRO) has also been issued against both accused.
Police had earlier confirmed that the child underwent a medical examination and is now in the safe care of a relative.
The matter has been adjourned to 21st October.
