Fresh Choice Supermarket to open at Damodar Yatu Lau Village

Fresh Choice Supermarket to open at Damodar Yatu Lau Village
Pacific Harbour residents will soon have a supermarket on their doorstep, with Fresh Choice Supermarket set to open at Damodar Yatu Lau Village, reducing the need for people to travel to Navua or Suva for their weekly shopping.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Damodar Group of Companies CEO, Div Damodar highlighted that the supermarket is a key part of the retail development needed to support Pacific Harbour and surrounding areas, including Serua and Namosi.

Damodar says when discussions began with Yatu Lau, the supermarket was identified as a major missing element in the development of the area.

He says the partnership with Fresh Choice was a natural fit, given the vision and historical connection the supermarket's leadership had with the Arts Village.

Meanwhile, Pmeghji Group General Manager, Eremasi Matanatabu says the new supermarket will be the seventh Fresh Choice supermarket in Fiji, following its existing stores in Port Denarau, Garden City, Tamavua, Lautoka, Savusavu and Namaka.

Matanatabu says the decision to become part of Damodar Yatu Lau Village came after discussions with the Damodar Group.

He says during the COVID-19 days, when supermarkets were closed, the company ran special deliveries for people who wanted products they would normally purchase from its shops.

He says this showed them there was a good market for their goods in the area.

Matanatabu says many people in Pacific Harbour currently have to drive to Navua or Suva to buy goods, and Fresh Choice wants to provide those products at their doorstep.

He says the estimated cost of the development is between $1 million and $1.2 million, including the initial stock required for the supermarket.

He says the supermarket is expected to create about 15 permanent jobs, with additional staff to be hired on and off depending on the season.

He says the supermarket will also support local growers and suppliers from Navua and the greater Suva area.

Matanatabu says the supermarket will provide fresh vegetables, quality cuts from its butcher counter and every essential to residents, visitors and resort guests in the area.

He says the company is targeting December for the opening, but if it cannot open before Christmas, it will definitely open in January.

He says the company has a delivery team operating around Viti Levu and will be able to deliver goods to people in the area.

He says Fresh Choice is also planning new stores in Nasese and Nausori, while looking at more locations in the West.
