Oceania Regional Powerlifting and bench press championships begin in Suva
Suva will host the 2026 Oceania Regional Powerlifting and Bench Press Championships, bringing together lifters from across the region for six days of competition.

The championships officially begin today, at the FMF Gymnasium in Laucala Bay, with athletes set to compete in various weight classes across the powerlifting and bench press events.

Fiji weight lifting says the competition will feature both male and female lifters across different weight categories, with all age groups eligible to participate.

According to the final timetable, the opening ceremony will take place at 9am before the first session of the championships gets underway with the men's bench press competition at 10.30am.

They say the women's powerlifting competition will follow at 1pm, while the day will conclude with another men's bench press session scheduled for 5.30pm.

Competition will continue throughout the week, with events scheduled from tomorrow to Friday.

The programme will feature a range of weight classes, including the heavier divisions in both men's and women's categories.

The championships will conclude on Friday with the final men's powerlifting session in the 120-kilogram-plus category, followed by a banquet at the competition venue.

The hosting of the regional championships provides an opportunity for local athletes to compete against some of the region's lifters while showcasing their strength and talent on home soil.

The event is scheduled to run until November 6, with the medal ceremonies taking place throughout the competition.
