The Fijian diaspora in Taupo, New Zealand, gathered to celebrate Diwali, highlighting the importance of preserving their culture, strengthening friendships and promoting unity among people from different backgrounds.
The celebration was organised by Taupo Community Sports and Cultural Incorporated, bringing together families, community leaders, members and supporters to celebrate the Festival of Lights.
Speaking during the celebration, the organisation's President, Dev Achari says Diwali is not just about celebrating a festival but also about recognising the community, its culture, friendships and the spirit of togetherness that makes Taupo a special place to live.

Achari says the festival symbolises the victory of light over darkness, good over evil and knowledge over ignorance.
He says the message of Diwali goes beyond religion and culture, reminding people of the importance of kindness, understanding, compassion and hope.
Achari says Taupo is home to people from many different cultures and backgrounds, and celebrations such as Diwali provide opportunities for communities to learn from one another, build friendships and strengthen their connections.
