The Vodafone Fiji Bulikula are preparing to make history as they gear up for their first Women's Rugby League World Cup, with Maria Paseka determined to build on the experience that helped Fiji qualify for the tournament.
The 20-year-old Dragons winger says representing Fiji during last year's qualifying tournament in Canada boosted her confidence and helped her develop as a player.
Paseka scored three tries against Canada on her international debut and another against Nigeria as Fiji secured their place at the World Cup.
She says playing alongside women from different NRLW clubs also helped her connect with her Fijian culture and improve her confidence on the field.
Paseka says the players are proud to represent their country and families and are determined to give their best against some of the world's strongest teams.
Under coach Jone Wesele, the Bulikula will face defending champions New Zealand at 2.50pm in their opening Group B match at McDonald Jones Stadium in Newcastle tomorrow.
They will then travel to Port Moresby to face Papua New Guinea on October 24 before taking on France at the Gold Coast on October 31.
Paseka says every match will be challenging, but the team is confident of receiving strong support wherever they play.
She says the players will give everything on the field while remembering their families and the people they represent.
