A tropical-inspired hat put together at the last minute by her florist sister has earned 57-year-old Kini Seru from Suva recognition at the Melbourne Cup and Calcutta Cup celebrations.
Seru won the Best Hat award at the Fiji Fashion Week Melbourne and the Calcutta Cup at Art Wine Bar & Restaurant.
She says the hat was prepared by her sister, Marica, of Garden of Eden, earlier that morning.
Seru says she was unsure what to expect when her sister asked about the theme, but simply requested something tropical.
She says the beautiful sunny weather in Suva inspired the idea, as the city does not always get such sunshine.
Seru says she never expected to win and is excited and grateful for the recognition.
