The trial for Suva lawyer Tanya Waqanika’s FICAC case, which was scheduled to begin today, has been vacated by the Suva Magistrates Court.
This follows an application filed by her lawyer, Barbara Malimali, in the High Court this morning seeking a permanent stay of the charges against Waqanika.
Waqanika appeared before Magistrate Yogesh Prasad this morning.
She is charged with one count of publicly indicating opposition to a political party.
It is alleged that on or about April 19, 2024, while serving as a public officer and as a board member of Investment Fiji and Telecom Fiji Limited, Waqanika publicly indicated opposition to SODELPA.
The matter has been adjourned to November 2nd.
