The proposed ban on social media for children aged 16 and under marks an important step in protecting our children and promoting the responsible use of social media.
Minister for Information, Environment and Climate Change Lynda Tabuya shared this with the children at Villa Four Settlement, Nasinu.
Children came together at Children’s Forums held in Villa Four Settlement in Nasinu, Wailea Settlement, Qauia Settlement, Wainibuku HART and Nabukavesi Village in Namosi to share their views on social media, safety and the proposed social media age deferment.
Tabuya emphasised the importance of hearing from children on an issue that directly affects them.
The Minister says that for the first time, a Children’s Forum heard directly from children aged 13 to 17 about their views on the proposed social media ban.
She says it is important to listen tochildren and ensure their voices are considered in decisions that directly affect them.
Tabuya says the views gathered from the forum will contribute to a report being prepared by the task force, chaired by her ministry together with the Ministry of Communications.
