Nausori resident calls for Fiji to be declared a Christian nation and retention of immunity clause
Nausori resident Nitesh Chand is calling for Fiji to be declared a Christian nation, the Government to remove permit requirements for preaching the gospel openly throughout Fiji and is supporting retaining the immunity.

While making a submission to the Joint Committee on the Constitution (Amendment) Bill 2026 in Nakasi, Chand says he believes Fiji should acknowledge God in the supreme law of the country.

He says if he were Prime Minister, he would declare Fiji a Christian nation and establish a kingdom-based Constitution involving people who share his Christian beliefs.

Chand says Christianity cannot be equalised with other religions, adding that the religious liberty clause in the Constitution, therefore, does not make sense.

He says people who do not believe in Jesus Christ should not worry because, when we say Jesus, it means love.

The Nausori resident says Christian values allow its citizens to love and forgive without violence or persecution.

He also requests the Government to remove all permit requirements and allow the gospel of Lord Jesus Christ to be preached openly throughout the nation.

Addressing Prime Minister and Chair of the Joint Committee Sitiveni Rabuka, Chand said if God spoke to Rabuka in 1987, he believes God anointed Rabuka and ordained him as the Prime Minister twice for his kingdom establishment to this nation.

Chand further says that as we believe in forgiveness, let the immunity clause be, adding that those who do not believe in God do not believe in forgiveness.

He says if you cannot forgive, you do not deserve heaven.

He believes Fiji's problems would be solved if the country was based on Christianity and says the nation must repent to witness restoration.

Chand also appeals to the Prime Minister, the President, the Chairman of the Great Council of Chiefs and religious leaders to unite ahead of the referendum.
