Speaking during his submission to the Joint Parliamentary Special Committee at the public consultation on the Constitution Amendment Bill at Rakiraki Hall, Nand says he is sharing his personal views and is not representing any organisation.
Nand, who is married to an iTaukei woman, says he is proud of his Indo-Fijian identity and his family and life in Fiji.
He says descendants of the Girmitiyas have lived in Fiji for generations and contributed to the country's development, but he believes the iTaukei community should be allowed to keep the name Fijian if that is what they want.
Nand says what matters to him is that people's identities and nationality are recognised in official documents, including birth certificates and passports.
He also called for the Great Council of Chiefs to be retained, saying it has played an important role in protecting iTaukei traditions and village protocols for many years.
Nand believes the Council should continue to play a role in deciding who becomes Fiji's President, and that the position should be held by an indigenous Fijian.
On whether Fiji should be a secular or Christian state, Nand says Fiji is a multiracial country where people follow different religions.
He believes politics should be kept separate from religious beliefs, including Christianity and Hinduism.
Nand also highlighted the friendliness of Fiji's people, saying it is one of the reasons foreigners choose to live and invest in the country.
