With concerns being raised about children being found with suicide notes in schools, calls have been made to parents to notice signs and symptoms of mental stress in their children and reach out for support.

It has been highlighted that there are now more than 60 admissions at the St Giles Hospital on a monthly basis and children as young as 14 years are also being admitted.

The branch manager for Empower Pacific, Reshmi Singh says some of the reasons children are calling their helpline includes verbal and physical abuse and in some cases there are unrealistic expectations placed on children.

Singh also says other issues such as drug abuse and bullying can lead children into deeper depression and anxiety.

She has highlighted these are some of the common reasons that lead to children attempting suicide or deliberate harm.

Singh also says sometimes it is also helpful by being a empathetic listener and not putting labels on children.

If you or any of your loved ones are experiencing mental stress and need help, you can call Empower Pacific on 5626.
