Diwali spirit remains high in Labasa despite water struggles
Despite people struggling with water shortages due to the effects of El Niño, the excitement and spirit of Diwali remains high in Labasa as thousands of people flock to town for last-minute shopping ahead of the Festival of Lights.

Speaking to fijivillage News, Dhirendra Prasad of Ranibulu, Labasa says although people are facing difficulties with water supply, the excitement and enthusiasm for Diwali celebrations remain strong.

Prasad says this is reflected in the busy streets of Labasa Town, with large numbers of people doing their last-minute shopping.

He says he is also praying for those affected by water shortages this Diwali, hoping they will get some relief and access to water.

Meanwhile, Shalesh Kumar of Tagnikula, says he woke up early to catch a bus to town to do his Diwali shopping.

He says he had already expected Labasa Town to be busy as many people rushed to purchase their Diwali essentials.

He adds that Diwali is the most important festival in their religion, and families need to make the necessary preparations to celebrate it in the best possible way.
