First ever virtual Fiji Fashion Week starts with designs by Hill, Harsmeetal & 8 Mountains

The first virtual Fiji Fashion Week started last night with designers Jessica Hill, Harsha Harsmeetal and Moira Solvalu showcasing their line of designs.

Fiji Fashion Week Managing Director, Ellen Whippy Knight says they could not have a physical show because of the COVID-19 pandemic and have switched to a virtual show which will highlight 15 designers over the week.

She says people will also get to see Fiji’s eight beautiful locations during the show.

Hill’s design line called Shades of Freedom shows monochromatic colours and kaftans, pant suits and bodycon dresses.

She says she is excited that her design line is finally here.

Hill made her Fiji Fashion Week debut last year and aims to open her own retail store in the future.

Harsmeetal says her design line this year is called Kalpanik which is the Sanskrit word for dreaming and hopes Kalpanik will make her dreams come true.

The designer behind 8 Mountains, Moira Solvalu says her designs are called Être which is French for ‘to be’. Solvalu says it also translates into her journey as a designer over the last 12 years.

She adds the prints for her line are more abstract tribal and is made for the Pacific woman.

The Fiji Fashion Week sponsored by Palmolive continues this evening where Hosanna Kabakoro, Su Samuels and Nikhat Akbar and Vedika Rathod will be showcasing their designs.
