Athletics Fiji has already begun its journey towards the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games, with a strategic plan underway to identify, categorise, support and monitor athletes as they progress towards Olympic qualification.
Athletics Fiji President Joji Liga shared this with fijivillage News at the Sports Commission office.
Liga says that with less than six years to go until Brisbane 2032, the immediate challenge is not to predict precisely who will ultimately qualify for the Games, but to ensure that athletes who have demonstrated strong performances or emerging potential are identified and supported.
He says Athletics Fiji has established a Brisbane 2032 athlete watchlist for this reason.
Liga says the watchlist is broader than a traditional national squad and provides a comprehensive initial picture of athletes currently on, or potentially entering, Fiji's pathway to Brisbane 2032.
Meanwhile, Athletics New Zealand CEO Cam Mitchell says it is an honour to witness the great work being done by Athletics Fiji through its strategic plan for the Brisbane 2032 Olympic Games.
He says the strategic plan developed by Liga provides a reliable framework for identifying areas where Athletics New Zealand can assist, including athlete performance, overall welfare, corporate partnerships and financial support.
