While many Fijians celebrated Fiji Day with their families, the Noqu Viti Foundation reached out to people in need by distributing 100 food packs along the Suva Nausori corridor.
Foundation co-founder and Vice President Patricia Subbaiya told fijivillage News that the initiative was aimed at giving back to the community and ensuring that no one is left behind.
Subbaiya says while some people were enjoying the day with their families, others were alone on the streets and had nowhere to find food.
She says the foundation, which is yet to be registered, was established by three former youth parliamentarians who share a strong passion for community service, including caring for people, animals and nature.
She says the three co-founders funded the initiative themselves, with support from their parents.
Subbaiya says the team distributed around 100 food packs containing chicken palau and tomato chutney.
She says the foundation's main message is that no one should be left behind, regardless of their situation or circumstances.
Subbaiya also urged Fijians to continue living together in peace and harmony, regardless of their racial identity or cultural beliefs.
She says Fiji has a history of people co-existing peacefully and hopes everyone will continue to maintain that spirit as the country works towards a brighter future.
